YSR Congress Party decides not to contest in Telangana
Newly formed YSR Congress Party has decided not to field any candidates for the by-polls in the Telangana region. YSR Congress Party chief and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy said that his party would contest in 18 out of the 24 constituencies which are likely to have by-elections. He said that they would not contest in the bypolls in Telangana since the MLAs there have resigned for the Telangana cause in tune with the aspirations of the people.
He further announced that all 18 MLAs who supported his party and voted against the government in the recent no-confidence motion, defying their party's whip, would be their candidates for the bypolls. The YSR Congress Party would fight the bypolls on farmers' issues, saying that the government has failed in several ways to come to the aid of the farmers.
Jagan also said that his party has offered ticket to the wife of late independent MLA Rajeshwar Reddy who passed away with a heart attack. He said that if she is not interested in contesting the elections on his party's ticket, they would nevertheless support her even if she contests on behalf of other parties.
He also lashed out against Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu who conspired with the Congress party during the no-trust voting. He questioned the TDP chief on why he has not moved the no-confidence motion before PRP announced their support to the Congress.
